Most of the Vitamin D our body needs we get from sunlight on our skin. Vitamin D helps balance the amount of phosphate and calcium in our body.
Vitamin D is essential in maintaining several functions including normal muscle function, a healthy immune system and supporting strong bones and teeth.
Having a healthy, balanced diet including oily fish, eggs, and fortified breakfast cereals and having access to sunshine can be a benefit.
Particular groups of people at risk of Vitamin D deficiency are babies, breastfeeding women and the over 65’s, housebound persons or those with a darker skin (Asian, African, African – Carribean).
