WE MAY NOT KNOW THE ENDING YET, BUT WE KNOW THE START
Our Story
FROM RECOVERY TO retreat
Where It Began
Zest Life was founded in 2000 by Laura Bell, a qualified yoga teacher and retreat leader based in North Wales.
At 18, Laura broke her back in a boating accident in Australia. During three months of rehabilitation, she was introduced to yoga — and discovered that movement, nature and stillness could do things that medicine alone could not. Recovery from the physical injury was followed by a harder, quieter battle with depression and eating disorders. Yoga, wild swimming, walking and time outdoors became the tools that brought her back.
She did not set out to build a retreat brand. She set out to share what had saved her.

WHAT WE DO
25 years. Over 3,000 guests. One simple idea.
Zest Life has been running yoga and wellness retreats since 2000 — making it one of the longest-established retreat brands in the UK. Over that time, more than 3,000 guests have joined us in some of Britain and Europe's most beautiful places.
We run small-group retreats, typically 8 to 12 guests, combining yoga with wild swimming, coastal and mountain walking, breathwork, sauna and nourishing plant-based food. Every retreat is carefully held. Every detail is considered. The pace is unhurried. The group is small enough to feel personal.
Zest Life retreats run across the UK and internationally. UK locations include Anglesey, the Lake District, North Wales and Yorkshire. International retreats take guests to Norway's Senja Island, the Stockholm Archipelago in Sweden, northern Ibiza, the Scottish Cairngorms and Morocco.
Zest Life is rated 4.8 on Trustpilot from over 515 verified guest reviews and has been featured in The Times, Vogue, The Telegraph, The Guardian, Condé Nast Traveller, The Independent and Harper's Bazaar.
WHY WE DO IT
The five things every retreat is built around.
Every Zest Life retreat, wherever it takes place, whatever the season, is shaped by the same five elements that changed Laura's life:
- Movement — yoga that meets you where you are, from dynamic morning practice to restorative evening flow
- Nature — wild swimming, mountain walking, cold water, open skies
- Nourishment — seasonal, plant-based food made with care and local ingredients
- Connection — a small group of like-minded people, without the noise of the everyday
- Rest — genuine space to slow down, breathe and return to yourself
These are not additions to the retreat. They are the retreat.

WHO LEADS IT
Laura Bell — Founder & Yoga Teacher
Laura has been leading retreats for over 25 years. She is a qualified yoga teacher trained in Ashtanga, with additional qualifications in Blissology yoga, children's yoga, pregnancy and postnatal yoga, and Swedish full body massage. She discovered wild swimming later in her retreat journey and has woven cold water into the Zest Life programme ever since.
Laura no longer leads every retreat in person; Zest Life has grown to include a carefully chosen team of experienced yoga teachers, open water swim coaches, chefs and therapists. But she continues to direct the brand, curate the experiences and ensure that every retreat carries the same standards of care that she set in 2000.
